Daily Deviationthe crane by ~carpexnoctem is a great example of light painting and the kind of directions it can take. "This piece is phenomenal! It actually looks like what it is supposed to, and has a 3D/vector feel to it." (Suggested by `IBinsanity and Featured by ^opioid)

It's a light painting.

Set the camera to bulb exposure, and with a flashlight wave it around and create images.

Photography is drawing with light, this is a very literal usage of the term.
